It is the largest aquarium on the Adriatic coast. It showcases the varied marine world as a source of information and learning opportunities, particularly aimed at children and families.

Set in an historical architectural compound dating back to 1934, the Aquarium features four indoor itineraries (Blue, Green, Yellow and Purple) each occupying a full building, hosting over 10,000 specimens of hundreds different species among them sharks, penguins, otters, rays, jellyfish, numerous species of tropical and Mediterranean fauna, including both marine and terrestrial animals. A visit to the Aquarium is a crescendo of emotions with each encounter, be it the awesome largestsand tiger sharks in Italy swimming in the large tank holding 700,000 liters of seawater, the chirpy otters or the nimble penguins.

Among the new features in 2018, alongside interactive area with surprise boxes along the walkways, there are new theme areas such as the suggestive mangrove forest and the new Purple Itinerary exhibition "Abyss, alien land", a view on species of the sea depths, with the reproduction of a 13 mt long giant squid.

Highly recommended is the Blue Itinerary that is dedicated to marine environments. It starts with the Humboldt’s Penguin Tank, reaches the huge shark thank, continues on to Mediterranean and Oceanic routes, with breathtaking seascapes where thousands of colorful fish swim in dedicated habitats.

The Green Itinerary is home to reptiles, insects and far-fetched amphibians like the deadly dart frogs from Central and South America, the oddfrilled-neck lizards from Australia, colorful chameleons and Mexican iguanas. The Yellow itinerary is home to the perky, lively and show-stopping otters, as well as to the all-but-motionless Cuvier’s caimans.

Interaction is a key feature the public most loves: from stroking purple stingrays in the large touch-pool to attending the daily feeding hours of sharks, penguins, otters and purple stingrays where trainers and experts deliver facts, info and data to the public.
